Saturday saw us take on the Lakes Course, the more difficult of the two due to over half the holes having quite large expanses of water playing a part somewhere in your approach to the green. The signature hole being the 18th leading up to the hotel/clubhouse. The result did not see any golfer break par with the captain taking first place by a shot from the big hitting Krys Jilks. Pete's score of 36 consisted of 2 blobs and seven pars with a good slice of luck along the way. A few wild tee shots did not get the punishment they deserved but some decent recover shots went a long was to making the score a winner. Back in second was Krys who's 5 pars were crafted well but ended up cursing a blob on the stroke index 18 par three 11th, which ultimately cost him the win. Two shots back was James H & Sean A who both carded 33 points. A slow start for James with only 13 points on the front 9 was always going to make things difficult but a very good 20 on the back nine gave him a good finishing score. Sean though was very steady with just a couple of blobs for his 33. Only another 2 golfers finishing in their buffer zone gave us one of our lowest scoring rounds to date. The strong head wind on many of the back nine holes certainly made it a difficult day with many using a driver on the par 3's. The Wyder cup saw the Blues take an early lead 5.5 to 3.5. As for Sunday we expected a score-fest with the openness of the course and lack of trouble but it did not turn out that way. Half the field finished in their buffer zone or better but only 3 golfers broke par. Sent out first by the Blue team captain and finishing third was club captain Pete who for the second day running had to work hard at recovering his poor work on the tee. Finishing 2 shots better that the previous day with 38 was a fine reward for a blob free round. He could not get the better of paddy who took the Wyder Cup singles with a 3&2 victory. Paddy ended up with his best score for a long time netting 34 Stableford points. He was solid all round with only a couple of blobs until the last two holes where he threw away 4 to 6 points stopping him finishing on the rostrum. Second place went to one of the Pre Tournament favorites Dave Thompson. His finishing round of 41 saw half the holes pared but unfortunately spoilt with a blob on Par 3 stroke index 18. He made short work of Nico in the Wyder Cup being 7 up at the turn and completing the job 5&4. This solid start has now seen his handicap drop to 14. But no one could have kept up with the winner Gez who carded a very impressive 45 points of 13. He obviously recorded no blobs and only 3 single point scores. The damage was done with 3 birdies to go with his 8 pars. He could not put a foot wrong on or off the green. He ripped apart James Heathcote (not many people can say that) in the Wyder Cup taking him 6&5. The Wyder Cup was taken by the Reds who have leveled the series at 9 each. After trailing from Saturday they took a clear 4 point victory taking the Sunday 11.5 to 5.5 for a 15 to level finishing score.  Check here for your stats and the full history. Of course the weekend would not be complete without an antic or two. After Robs wrong hole/wrong course scenario on Friday Woody decided to role his clubs into one of the sizable Lakes on the course and only juts managed to fish them out before they went under by actually standing in the water. Everything went under including wallet and clothing. Luckily there where some ideas on hand for his next new business venture. See picture right.
