A beautiful summers day in the Warwickshire countryside was only hindered by the massive amount of building work the course had going on and greens having been spiked and sanded some 2 weeks ago. A big score was potentially on the card with a good few short par 4s and some nice par 3s. But even though the winner notched 40 only 3 society golfers broke par. Krys Jilks took the top spot with a 4 under par 40 even with 4 blobs, thanks to a 5 pointer, couple of 4a and a clutch of 3s. Only one point back was Alan T who's 39 was more conventional with only 1 blob, 7 pars and a birdie. The only other player to break par and again our only singe figured handicapper was Paul Newsome. He 38 saw the lowest gross score of the day 79 which consisted of nine pars and one birdie. 11 players were then within their buffer zone where only a stray drive, fluffed chip or misread put cost you a few places (It was all very tight) A couple of golfers let a big score get away, James Little 24 points after 9 was on for a big big score but could only manage 12 on the back nine. Consolation was a match play victory 7 & 5 over Rob to make it into the Committee Shield semi finals. Pete Randle was another one that let 22 points after the first 9 holes slide with only 9 on the back nine holes. A special mention must go to Craig who's competitive nature cost him. Playing from close to a tree he gave the ball his full commitment but as you can see from the picture below it did not turn out as planned. Luckily no physical injury just a pain in the pocket. It was great to see Dale with us again week having a little knock on a few of the holes, and a Full English.
