 What
a great day and a well prepared golf course that was matched by some
good performances. Overall leading score was again associate member
Richard Davis who notched a very healthy 44 points in his gross
score of 87 and nett 68. He ha s paid the price for another good
round with his handicap coming down to 18 will be a contender to
enter the Albatross League next season. The winner again came down
to count back with Anthony H just missing out even though his gross
of 83 was three better than the winner. He lost it on the 18th where
he had a four shot lead going to the tee but notched his only blob
of the day, while the eventual winner Craig W weighed in with a
birdie for 4 points to sneak it with 22 points on the back 9.
Craig's 8 pars and a birdie just piped Anthony's 5 pars and 3
birdies. Just behind
these was Dave T who made a welcome return to
form
with a solid 40 points made up of 5 pars and a birdie on the back
nine which was only spoilt by a blob on the 14th. Darren G also
notched 40 points, but a couple of blobs made from wayward drives he
was a cert for taking the top spot. A few guys had round they would
want to forget with Eagle League OOM leader Brian D having a mare
with only 20
points,
his card saw far to many one points and blobs
and nothing resembling a par. John H continues his poor run of form
and is likely to be dropping down to the Eagle League next year
unless he puts in a couple of good rounds a the last two events.
After Graham Stacey's 50 points on tour he weighed in with a very
poor 17 which was close to our lowest
ever, back to the practice
ground ready for the next event.
These where lots of solid performances
with Dale again playing exactly to his handicap for the fourth time
this season, while Greg W slotted in with 34 points to take him into
the Albatross knockout final against society captain Pete. Steve
Whiston's 30 points was enough
to get him into two finals, Eagle League knockout Final against
Woody and against Mark P in the prestigious Committee Shield final
both to be played at the next event. The inaugural pairs final was a
totally one sided affair with Anthony H and Paul H beating Steve W
and Woody by a clear 15 points.
The day did not go without its fun
moments with again Cam providing easily the best of them. Cam
well known for his straight direct hitting (Ha-Ha) was lined up on
the 165yard par three 12th when uncharacteristically his ball only
made it only 15 feet to the ladies tee and to be more exact the 2
inch wide metal side of the marker sign. If that was not enough it
the ricochet off the sign into the water (Shown above left) So not to be
beaten he played his next ball from the tee instead of taking a drop
by the water, and this time a least he missed the metal sign by it
falling at least twice the distance (30 feet) straight into the
water. |
