The Shropshire June 9th  2007

A smile from Craig and a wave from Gez on the practice green prior to today's event. Craig continues to improve with another solid round of 35 points, made up of 5 nett birdies, 7 nett pars and no blobs.

Gez on the other hand seems to be getting back to his best with a solid round of 36 points. His best of the season.

Tommo Rewarded !!

Well what a cracking day all round. We not only got the best of the weather with it being a very hot day with no wind, we also got the best of the golf with 12 players scoring over 36 points and the societies best ever overall performance with 103 pars and 13 birdies. All this coupled with a nice breakfast and soup and sandwiches after got this course added to the short list for a return visit in the future. Well the fun started for some even before we got to the course, its a good job that Brain D's golf was more coordinated than his directions, finding his was nicely into Telford town centre even though his directions easily explained the simple route to The Shropshire. Obvious the lack of concentration in his driving was channeled into his golf with his best round of the season. His score of 38 points only saw one blob and one nett eagle. The round was consolidated with 10 nett pars and 4 birdies of which where all on the back 9.

Committee member Willow Whit was back on track with a solid round of 38 which contained no blobs. Obviously the concentration shown on the first tee (top left) saw him in good stead. Or was he checking the tree layout? Top handicapper Dave B weighed in with a good round of 40 probably down to his new (and supposedly expensive) shoes (shown on the right) the 7th hole saw his only blob that was made up for with 3 nett eagles. Krys J came in with a solid round after a cracking back 9, notching 25 pts to go with his 15 on the front for another score of 40. Paul N went out on fire, hitting the turn on 24 points made up of 6 gross pars. The back 9 saw two blobs but a score of 42 points consolidated second place. Both Steve W and Jim C had cracking rounds of 41 playing together and in the division 2 knockout final it was a nip and tuck game with both of them hitting some cracking shots. Should be another good one at Beedles Lake where they are paired up again in the "Match play" Summer knockout.

What can you say about the winner Rob W. Only his second appearance and he as already got our biggest ever score of 49 points. Did we get it wrong, is he a bandit or was it just one of those days. Rob used to play golf but after some years on the side line has got himself back in shape. Up the driving range after work every night, on the golf course every weekend has got him back in the groove. 5 nett eagles and 7 nett birdies were a big help in getting him to his 49 points. He will have to keep this up now his handicap has been reduced to 25.8, where he has slotted nicely into the open spot in division 2.

So many other good scores on a day that has put this course on the short list for a return visit.

Tommo left - It took some months but he can now finally show his family and friends a golfing trophy, after the disappointment of winning both trial competitions last year and not receiving a trophy. Lets hope that Dave can go one better this year by taking the division 1 OOM. He his currently in second place on an average 35.25 so is nicely positioned.

Commitment is the word

Graham showed his continued commitment to the society by taking a short break from the family holiday by driving for 3 hours to join us on Saturday. He was rewarded by winning the division 3 spring knockout trophy.

Steve W hits another cracking approach securing yet another par.

Blunders had an absolute mare scoring only 24 points and losing his place at the top of division 3 to Sean A who played nicely to his handicap with 34 points.
