Our penultimate
event of the year proved to be a very close affair on a day where we
beat
the weather again. To be fair more scores in the 40's where expected
but did not materialize, but with 8 points covering the first 15
places a stray drive, wild approach or a short putt could have been
the difference. This was the story for the second and third placed
golfers. Back in third was Bez who without a blob in sight heading
down the 18th managed to loose his ball off the tee leaving him 1
shot short of top spot. Even worse was Nico who managed 3 over par
gross on the front 9 for 24 points, then followed it up with another
4 pars out the next 4. So after 15 holes was on any eye watering 38
points, unfortunately only 2 points on the last 3 holes left him
short on count back. The winner was Paresh who held his nerve for a
well balanced 40 points splitting it 20/20. No blobs a handful of
pars and a birdie gave him his second victory of the year and
another handicap
cut
now down to 21 from his season start of 25. I think the handicap
committee will be visiting it again at the AGM, so it can only be
classed as a great opening season for him. Today also saw the final
of our MatchPlay format "Committee Shield" competition which was
being contested between the current champion Pat M and Howard F. Pat
stated off like a train (once he had worked out how to put together
hid new trolley, pictured left) He was 3 up after 6 then Howard got
back to all square before pat took anther a two shot lead with 3 to
play. That's when the wheels came off loosing the last 3 holes for a
1UP win to Howard. A deserving first Seasons return for Howard to go
with his match day victory in August a splattering of nearest the
Pins and captain Combo victories. Another one who will see some
activity at the handicap review session in December.
