Staverton Park

Our last event of the 2011 season saw our closest finish for some time with only 5 shot separating the top 14 places. It was a beautiful November day, short sleeves, a peek of sunshine, good fairways and cracking greens all made for a great finish to the season. In the clubhouse after, were tales of woe, missing 2 footers, fluffed chips, bad tee shots, it was all down to what might have been for many, but Krys Jilks was the one who emerged triumphant. For the second event running a division 3 golfer took the honors. His 39 points took it on count back from Greg W who was fired up for the event, with the potential of division 2 looming. Both golfers played well but it was all down to the 18th, both players pared the hole but it was stroke index 10 meaning Krys got the extra shot for 4 points just one better than Greg with 3. Two shots back was 3 golfers on 1 under par. Steve W had a strong finish with 3,2,3,2 to secure his place in division one next year. Craig finished his season on a high, with his second best score of the season, and the lowest gross on the day (81) with only one blob on the 5th. The other golfer on 37 points was committee man and ever present Woody (Andy W) It was his best score of the season and earns him a handicap cut down to 20. No blobs a sprinkling of pars but too many single point score was the difference from top spot.

Next came a clutch of four golfers all on 36. Taking them all on count back was Captain Pete, who must have thought a big score was on the cards after paring the first 4 holes then birding the 5th for a cracking 15 points after 5 holes, and 1 under gross. But then a couple of blobs on the trot soon brought him down to earth, his only reward of the day (and year) was the most number of pars/birdies on the day (10). Next came the societies lowest handicapper Paul N, who just fell short of the division one OOM but did post the equal lowest gross on the day 81. Then next cam brother Gez who did enough to secure the Division one OOM title. Then last but not least of the four was Graham A, who is due for a big score. His last 3 rounds have promised much, but on each occasion faded on the last 5 holes to still end up with par and below every time. Its worth mentioning that Andy L played a cracking hole (his best of the day) on the front nine but unfortunately half way down towards the green played Cam's ball by mistake. So by the letter of the law was given a two shot penalty.
