Brampton Heath

Brampton Heath led to our closest finish for some time. The unsettled weather and good course conditions gave many golfers something to get their teeth into, with 10 golfers equaling or beating par. It was a four way tie with them all ending up on 5 under par at 41 points. Jim C, Sean W, Greg W and Mark B. First in was Greg who for the second event running notched 41 points. After coming second in the last event to a freak 50 point hall from Cam he must have though this one was his. But it was not to be again, but on the bright side he has seen his handicap reduce by 3 shots and climb into second place into the division two OOM (With an outside chance of taking it in the last event)

Next to roll in was Sean W and Bez who both went round together. Sean had a solid round with a 20/21 split and no blobs. He is a not a big hitter but rarely goes far from the fairway. His round could have been far better if he had not run in with 4 three putts in the first seven holes. Bez on the other hand rode his luck on the front nine, three times going into the thick rough and each time finding it. His power shone through when getting out of the undergrowth twice notching a two point hall recovery. So the last card in was Jim C who with a 22 point run on the back nine took the days honors.  His nine pars helped  with some accurate tee shots helped him claim nearest the pin in two and a share of the Captains combo. The other the nearest the pin winner was Andy L. who's 6 foot from the pin on the 135 yard 16th won it with ease. Andy's continued good form has set him up well for the division three OOM. He is 8 points clear of his closest rival with one event to go, so another solid round at Collingtree will give him his first OOM. To complete his day he took the league knockout title on count back from Sean A, giving him a clean sweep of league three knockout titles.

Paul Newsome had another under par round and is gradually moving towards being our first single figure golfer. Tommo had a welcome return to form with a two under par 38. His average 16 points on the front nine was made to look poor from the turn with 1 birdie and 4 pars in five consecutive holes to complete the back nine in 22 points. The other golfer to shoot under par was James L, who flew out of the blocks with 10 points after 4 holes and 10 points on the last 4 holes of the front nine for a total of 20 and one blob. His par score of 18 on the back nine was not enough to trouble the leaders.  Gez's par round was good enough to keep him 3 points behind his brother in the division one OOM going into the last event. This event hosted the pairs championship semi finals which saw Greg W take him and his partner Rob W through with his impressive 41, but the other semi went all the way with Steve W and Woody taking it by one point over the eighteen.

But I think the day went to a golfer who ended up in 14th position Steve Whiston. He won his division league knockout,  took the "Committee Shield" title by 1 point, progressed into the final of the pairs by 1 point, has effectively won his league round robin. If that's not enough he leads the "Grand Prix" by 1 point and is equal with Paul H at the top of the "Par 3 Championship" and of course lets not forget the nine point lead going into the last event in the "Division Two OOM". Not a bad days work.
