Our last event of the season provide some memorable moments and some season beating scores. No fewer than nine golfers broke par with five of them beating 40 points, and a further nine playing within their buffer zone. First place went to Division 3 golfer Darren Gough who notched a massive 44 points to sign off his WGGC career (for next season anyway) His round contained only two blobs a sprinkling of pars and more importantly a large number of bogies which off 30 notched up the point tally. Second place went to the vastly improving Dave Wiggett who for the second event running notched 43 points seeing his handicap tumble an amazing 6 shots in two events to make him the lowest handicapper in the society, taking over from Craig Whatsize who again had another round he would like to forget. Wiggy grossed 80 without a blob in sight, 10 pars and a birdie a score worthy of top spot as we move into 2010. Third place went to Woody who continues his best season to date finishing of with 42 points. It was his forth top 3 finish of the season just falling short by the odd point for two second places and two third. He like Wiggy has seen his handicap tumble, and finishes the season a healthy five shots better than he started it. Seven pars and only one blob coupled with a back nine of 24 points was all the ingredients for another top three finish. Today also saw the final of the "Pairs Championship" between Anthony H & Woody playing just Bez. (Woody putting some pressure on Bez at the first, see top left) Bez could have took the title for himself and his non attending partner Mark P, if his individual tally was better than the other two. He managed to beat Anthony by three shots but Woody won the day with an excellent round of 42 Stableford points to take the title. Season best rounds from Paul N and Dale G boosted their season tally with Paul falling three points short of taking the Division One OOM. Dale's round consolidated third spot in Division two on equal points with the vastly improving Wiggy. A couple of golfers a probably happy that the season has come to an end. Rich D posted his second poor round, backing up 17 stableford points with 23 this time. Craig could do with the batteries recharging after a below par 26. Paul Heathcote's par round of 36 gave him the Division 2 OOM by 4 shots from the rejuvenated Woody. The Division three OOM was a for gone conclusion with Chris Shaw taking it by a massive 17 points, the highest winning margin of any division to date. The day did not go without incident with  Brian D hitting Dale on the back at the seventh hole, luckily it was just a chip from around the green as Dale was marking his ball. Where is the etiquette these days :-) Nico almost took the captains head off on the tight 16th after thinning his chip, luckily the captain was wide awake but cold and managed to duck out the way. Chris Shaw started off the fun with a nice double bounce off the water on the first.
