New Handicap Index
Your WGGC index now uses your best 4 scores from your last 10 rounds (previously best 5 of 13). Aligns with the 10-event season and keeps your index current.
Annual Subscription
Fee increases from £25 to £40 — the first rise in 21 years — to cover higher prize money and rising match-day costs.
Maximum Playing Handicap
Capped at 40. Scoring 40–43 pts triggers extra –1.0; scoring 44+ pts triggers extra –2.0. Threshold raised from 41.
Playing Allowance
Reduced from 95% to 90% per GB&I rules. Creates greater equity and addresses concerns from low-handicap players.

"The Algorithm Has Spoken. Where tradition meets technology and the future of WGGC is decided by code rather than confidence."
WGGC AI Season Predictions 2026 — Chris & Pete
Methodology

How It Works

We've handed the keys to Artificial Intelligence — a cold, calculating machine with no sympathy for excuses, no respect for handicaps, and zero tolerance for "I usually play better than this."

  • Historical Stableford data from the last 5 seasons (reduces noise)
  • Player vs field averages — normalises skill across the division
  • Course-specific performance + CR/Slope — crucial adjustment
  • Handicap Index updates after each event — dynamic, not static
  • Bad round rule / luck factor — acknowledges variance
  • Winner suppression & podium saturation — avoids absurd outcomes
Accuracy & Disclaimer

How Accurate?

"Too accurate when it hurts. Completely wrong when it matters. In other words — exactly like golf."

These predictions are: not legally binding, highly debatable, guaranteed to be mentioned after every bad shot, and subject to change after the first pint.

We (Chris & Pete) spent hours refining the model. If you disagree with the AI — prove it on the course.

World Handicap System — WGGC Edition

Handicap System

WGGC-Specific Rules (Updated 2026)
Handicap Index (HI)
Your best 4 differentials from your last 10 rounds, multiplied by 100%, shown to one decimal point. Changed from best 5 of 13 at the 2026 AGM.
Course Handicap
Course Handicap = HI × Slope Rating / 113 + (Course Rating − Par)
Example: 12.6 × 144 / 113 + (72.4 − 72) = 16.45 → Course Handicap: 16.
Slope Rating
Represents relative difficulty for a bogey golfer vs scratch. Higher hazards and carries = higher slope. A player's course handicap = HI × (Slope / 113).
Adjusted Score
For handicap purposes, any big scores on a hole are rounded down to Net Double Bogey. This ensures no single hole inflates the handicap calculation.
Playing Allowance
Reduced to 90% from 2026 (previously 95%), in line with new GB&I Playing Handicap Allowances rules. To be reviewed at the 2027 AGM.
Exceptional Score Reductions
Scoring 40–43 pts: extra −1.0 reduction applied.
Scoring 44+ pts: extra −2.0 reduction applied. Threshold raised from 41 in 2026.

WGGC Constitution & Conduct

Rules & Regulations 2026

Ready Golf

Ready Golf means each golfer hits when ready. If you reach your ball and are ready to hit while others are not, go ahead — even if you're not "away." There are no penalties for playing out of turn. Play in turn where possible, but playing out of turn to improve the flow is good etiquette, not bad.

On The Fairway

Be ready to play as soon as it is your turn. Walk to your ball as soon as possible, down the sides of the fairway. Determine club selection while waiting, and move towards your ball early. Survey the shot and take practice swings while others play.

Entering & Leaving the Greens

Always leave your clubs at the back or side of the green closest to the next tee. Line up your putts while others are putting. Putt continuously if the ball is not in someone else's line. Hole out short putts rather than marking if you have an open stance.

Courtesy on the Course

All members should behave courteously to members of host clubs at all times — on the course and in the clubhouse. We are their guests.

Dress Regulations

Smart casual golf wear before play. Correct golf shoes; no jeans, T-shirts, or collarless shirts on the course. Smart casual required in the clubhouse after the round.

Count Back Rule

In the event of a tie: back nine, back six, back three, last hole. If still tied, from the front nine. See constitution for full details.

4-Ball Skipper Responsibilities

  • Hand out and collect scorecards after the round
  • Check local rules and communicate on the 1st tee
  • Provide a local course card to all players
  • Monitor and encourage speed of play throughout

2026 Competition Rules

  • Order of Merit: best 7 of 10 Stableford events count
  • Grand Prix: best 8 of 10 events count
  • Playing handicap allowance: 90% (down from 95% in 2026)
  • Maximum playing handicap: 40
  • 40–43 pts on a match day: extra −1.0 reduction that day
  • 44+ pts on a match day: extra −2.0 reduction that day
  • Grand Prix NP: Div 1 = 10 pts · Div 2 = 17 pts · Div 3 = 25 pts
  • Captains Combo points included in Grand Prix totals
  • Index: best 4 of last 10 rounds (11th always drops)
